Stoke Gabriel informal gathering 14.01.22

An informal gathering in Stoke Gabriel village hall, 14th January 2022, 7.30 – 9pm, for anyone interested in Steve’s ‘Blue Pearl’ Oratorio.

Hello. I’m Steve Banks, musician and composer. I live with my wife, artist and mindfulness teacher Jo Gosling, in Coombe Shute. You may know me from performances with the Haldon Quartet, or Blue Jewel Ceilidh Band, or – in more distant times –  with Celtic folk band Chanter.

I will be hosting an evening for anyone interested in supporting or finding out more about the Blue Pearl project, in Stoke Gabriel village hall on Friday 14th January 2022, 7.30pm – 9pm. I will talk a bit about Blue Pearl, we’ll listen to a short excerpt, and then there will be a Q & A and discussion. There will be wine and nibbles. Please email me if you plan to come.

Between 2013 and 2019 I composed a major new sacred choral work, ‘Blue Pearl: A One World Oratorio’. The world premiere is going to be on 14th May 2022, at St Giles’ Cripplegate, London, performed by the London Mozart Players, with Excelsis chamber choir and four superb solo singers. The concert will also be streamed online, so you can listen in the comfort of your own home!

As the title suggests, ‘Blue Pearl’ is music for our time, when humanity needs to act ‘in concert’ as never before (‘Blue Pearl’ being an image for what the earth looks like from space, seen as a whole). One of its central themes is the unity (in diversity) of the earth, and of humanity. You can read more about it and listen to a demo recording on this website.

Support the world premiere

The world premiere is still a way off, but I am spreading the word so that, if you are interested, you can put the date in your diary (and please tell your friends!), and also because I am seeking support to put on this concert – an event in its own right, but also a showcase for ‘Blue Pearl’, in the hope that other choirs will perform it in the future (hopefully including one of our excellent south Devon choirs).

If you would like to help, please sign up to the e-newsletter on the ‘Contact’ page, and I will be in touch about different ways you can support the project. If you’d like to contact me directly, please drop me a line at, or phone 01803 782219.
